On August 3, just a couple of months ago, I rear-ended someone. It was my fault. I felt totally stupid. How could this possibly happen?
My car's horn was blaring, non-stop, continuously. Loud and nerve wracking. The steering wheel airbag exploded in my face. Then it burst open with a gush of super heated air that burned the glove off my hand.
Thank goodness I was wearing gloves! I had a giant hole in my glove and intense pain.
The woman whose car I hit was very understanding.
I figured out a trick to make the horn stop by pulling on the broken airbag. Then another woman magically showed up and helped out by grabbing the airbag and pulling so the horn stopped. I tried to open the hood so I could disconnect the battery. I couldn't open the hood.
Then a man walked over and opened the hood and disconnected the battery! He asked if there was anything else and I didn't think so. He left as quietly as he had shown up.
I was so surprised by this miracle within tragedy. Even more surprising, the woman who pulled the airbag was the mother of the other driver! The man who opened the hood and disconnected the battery... guess!... He was the father of the other driver!
We finally got our information exchange sorted out. I was on hold for a long time, on the phone, while trying to schedule a tow.
Focusing on getting the necessary things done, I was not thinking about myself. As they were about to leave, the mother and daughter asked me if I wanted a ride to the emergency room. They asked me if I was okay. I took a breath and put more attention on my own experience.
I started crying. It was embarrassing enough already. Then I started crying! They were so kind and understanding.
"Don't worry. It was just an accident. It happens to everyone."
The insurance company declared my car a total loss. I decided to get a used car as the replacement vehicle. For two months, I did not have my own car.
During this time, I have not felt on top of things.
I was just starting to feel a little stronger when the heat wave intensified. There is an Ayurveda-themed garden plot that I manage at the Venice High School Learning Garden. On August 29, I was working hard in the garden. I wanted to get a lot done. I was sweating hard and ready to go home. But, I thought that I ought to fix at least a small part of one pathway. I got a couple of wheelbarrows full of mulch for the path.
It was too much. I had heat exhaustion. Not as bad as heat stroke, where you pass out then and there. Bad enough that I couldn't do anything at all the next day. My stamina has been very low since then. Many days I could not do any yoga or even walk to the office.
I have been pacing myself and working at replenishing my system.
Many people underestimate how much hot weather can drain the human system. I hope that you have taken good care of yourself during this time.
This is a personal message to let you know why you have not heard from me. Zero AI has been used!
I have been using my tools to repair and rebuild my system. Sometimes this stuff takes more time than we want it to.
An old friend of mine wrote a review that was personally very uplifting and affirming. I was very moved by this review from Linda. Have you ever felt like an extremely long chain of events and chunks of time finally lead you to a welcome, gratifying sense of relief and worthwhileness? This was one of those for me. Linda's review is quoted below.
Blessings to you!
